London, England -- The second in a series of three Sustain IT Podcasts, produced by The Independent, looks at how flexible working and technology has been a benefit to business and the economy. Roger Trapp, Management Issues Editor for The Independent, and Geoffrey Lean, Environment Editor for The Independent on Sunday discuss the issues surrounding how technology has led to a change in working patterns.
Each of the SustainIT podcasts, sponsored in association with BT, offer listeners information and opinions by economic, business and environmental columnists from The Independent. The podcasts are available to hear or download at http://sn.im/
The speakers discuss a variety of issues related to Sustainable IT and the benefits to workers, businesses and the environment. "Well obviously you know, I'm saving X commutes a week (working from home), and so is everybody else that stays (works) at home," said Geoffrey Lean, Environmental Editor for the Independent on Sunday. Lean added that, "It takes less to heat a house than it does to heat a huge whacking great office. There is this statistic out that says that the average cost of an office is £7,000 per desk, per year."
