Follow on Google News | Barris and Sanderson Demonized SEMA with their Red Demon Dodge ChallengerThe Dynamic Duo unveil two new Dodge Challengers ready for production.
By: Dave Frakes Shortly after SEMA 2007, Barris and Sanderson went to work on designing a series of “Retro-Modern limited edition” cars. “ As the ideas began to flow, it was obvious we had a multi-car lineup in front of us”, said George Barris. “The first thing I saw was a chance to wrap the car in carbon fiber. While rally stripes defined the muscle car era, I wanted to take it to the next level, so I created a 3D Carbon Fiber rally stripe that wrapped the Challenger from the nose to rear bumper integrating a functional hood scoop.” According to Sanderson production will begin in November. Sanderson said, “There will be three models designed by Barris. We are presenting two here at SEMA. The three models will be built on all three Challenger models. The “Vanishing Point” will live on the Dodges SE model. The V6 Challenger SE will have the option of adding a Turbocharger. The second car in the line will be the “Blue Ray” built on the Dodges R/T platform. The 5.7 Hemi with optional Supercharger will produce 500 plus horsepower. The flagship Red Demon features a wide body design with 3” rear quarter panel enhancements while the front adds 1 ½”. Built on Dodges SRT platform the “Red Demon” with the 6.1 Hemi custom built will feature a Supercharger that we believe after final testing will be 625 horse power plus.“ “I wanted the “Red Demon” to have a real Demon look”, said George Barris. The “King of Kustomizing” Production is started in Sanderson’s Pilot Point Texas facility in November 2008. Prices range from the $40,000 range to the Red Demon at around $150,000 completely loaded. Each car goes through a complete re-paint with two tone paint and triple pin strips, kustom wheels, with other unique standard and optional equipment like Vertical Doors and computerized air ride system. Sanderson said, “The new Challenger’s success tells us the Retro-Look is hot. The Sanderson Challengers designed by George Barris will allow a limited number of discerning buyers to have something truly unique.” # # # George Barris, known as the “King of Kustoms” has designed some of the best-known cars in movies and TV for decades.
