LOCAL BANK WRAPS HOMELESS PETS IN KINDNESS

Will County, IL – April 14, 2009 – A homeless pet’s best friend may just be a bank, thanks to a timely donation from Allegiance Community Bank. On Monday, Allegiance Community Bank donated 50 new blankets to the Will County Humane Society. Blankets are always in need because fresh blankets are distributed daily to homeless pets at the shelter, and the number of pets in need is growing with changes in the local economy.

Retail Sales Manager, Cyndie Bliss, notes that pet generosity comes naturally for Allegiance Community Bank: “We strive to be Will County’s Pet Friendly and People Friendly Bank, so we do our best to make sure that homeless pets have our support. We also know that shelters are crowded due to tough economic times and we are pleased to be able to lend some support knowing that we’re helping to comfort homeless pets in need.”

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 500,000 to 1 million cats and dogs in the United States are currently at risk of becoming homeless. This estimate is 10 to 20 percent higher than the 5 million dogs and cats that enter shelters each year.

Will County Humane Society facility manager, Larry Ringbauer commented: “The economy definitely seems to be affecting the number and type of pets we currently have available for adoption. These days we see just as many pure breeds as mixed breeds. We know that it takes a lot for a family to relinquish their cherished pet, so it’s more critical than ever that businesses like Allegiance Community Bank and individuals support the Humane Society’s efforts. ”

According to Ringbauer, individuals and businesses can support the Humane Society in many different ways. Volunteers are needed throughout the week to walk dogs, socialize with pets and help around the facility. The shelter is also looking for individuals to foster selected pets who need special attention. In addition to gift dollars, the shelter has a donation wish list that includes:
•   Clean Blankets and Towels
•   Canned Dog and Cat Food (no red dye)
•   KMR (Kitten Feeding Formula)
•   Esbilac (Puppy Feeding Formula)
•   Cat Litter
•   Leashes and Collars (any size)
•   Grooming Supplies (shampoo, etc.)
•   Blow Dryer
•   Heating Pads

Individuals and businesses wishing to donate their time or items from the shelters wish list should contact the Will County Humane Society at (815) 741-0695.
