YouReportSport.com, a video sharing portal for sports fans, launches today. With the pleathora of video sharing sites available on the web the founders of YouReportSport.com were frustrated at not being able to view a dedicated sports channel that concentrated on the sports fans' views of events. "It actually came about when we were looking for fan reactions from the first Grand Prix of this year. There were plenty of news sites telling us what happended but nothing from fans... anywhere" Said David Bradley, one of the YouReportSport.com team.
After looking in all the obvious places on the web and finding no websites of note that provided a dedicated outlet for fan videos, the YouReportSport.com team decided to create their own.
"We are all sports fans with interests across the whole sports spectrum, F1, soccer, skiing, boarding to extreme sports, we love them all. So we figured if we were looking for something like this then so would others" Bradley added.
The team also have ambitions of developing the site into something more serious during 2009. "We have discussed the marketplace with sports marketing professionals as part of an ongoing discussion for sponsorship in Sport as the site grows more popular"
Speaking about this potential Trevor Steggles of 'Trevor Steggles Marketing' said "You Report Sport is the best thing to happen for the sports fan in many a long year, this site provides a unique opportunity for fans to communicate about their favourite sports and stars. Sports of all types feature heavily in our daily lives, there are millions of dedicated fans who now have the chance to interact on a site dedicated to them and their interests. If the team at YouReportSport.com are able to grow the site into a well trafficked niche there will be large opportunities for sponsorship and new ways to market products direct to the fans"
Asked about how the marketing of the site would be different from the mass market of video sharing sites Bradley said "It is true, there are a lot of video sharing sites, but they are all going for the 'Dancing Baby' and 'Star Wars Kid' market, which is amusing, but not our niche. We are just about sports, that's it, nothing else. We also will be rewarding members with cool gadgets for the best uploads. For example we have a competition for the best upload that runs until the end of May 2009 which gives a prize of a 'Flip Cam Corder' and we will be running others with tickets to premium sporting events, track days etc. As we grow we aim to go directly into sports sponsorship and have a presence at various sporting events"
The next 'big thing?' Bradley says "We, along with 250,000 others go to the Le Mans 24 Hour Race each year. We all share pictures and videos on various forums, now we all have a dedicated site to play on. The site is aimed at filling a niche for sports fans like this, if it becomes commercial too, that's great"
