Colin, Chips And Mushy Peas Anyone?

Pollack was the new Cod this Easter at The Italian Club Fish!

April 14, 2009 - PRLog -- One Liverpool restaurant offered diners an alterative to the usual cod or haddock on Good Friday, by serving a fish that was once known to be only suitable for cats!

Pollack is more environmentally friendly, cheaper and in plentiful supply compared with cod. And due to its popularity in recent weeks since the restaurant’s opening, The Italian Club Fish! at the top of Bold Street in Liverpool City Centre will now be serving it up as part of its daily menu alongside more prestigious dishes such as Lobster Thermidor.

Head Chef Maurizio Pellegrini “Pollack is a great alternative to cod, it has a similar taste and texture. It is a very versatile fish, you can make it to your individual tastes.”

Pollack is largely found amongst the seas of Great Britain more so along the coast of Scotland and Wales.

A recent survey by a leading supermarket discovered that sales of the fish were limited due to the embarrassing nature of the fish name. One supermarket decided to re-name the fish Colin (from the French for Pollack, pronounced Co-lan)

So with restaurants no longer dropping a Pollack, anyone for Colin, Chips and mushy peas?
