PRLog - April 14, 2009 - TAMPERE, Finland -- Electricity is close to non-existent in the area hit by earthquake. The majority of cellular base stations in the region continue to work thanks to their power back-ups. However, people from the Italian Civil Protection Agency who are working on the rescue operation could not communicate once their phone batteries had been used.
The 200 chargers were manufactured for Suntrica by Laukamo Oy and shipped by DBSchenker, Suntica's logistics partner on Thursday the 9th April. All three companies provided the chargers and their services free of charge. www.laukamo.fi and www.dbschenker.com
Mr. Jouko Häyrynen, CEO and co-founder of Suntrica, said: "Rescue workers on the ground can now communicate with each other. We are glad that we could help. Our solar powered chargers support all different kinds of communication devices. They are a portable and easy-to-use instant source of energy on the move."
Two weeks ago Suntrica's solar powered chargers took second place in the "Green - Consumer Hardware" category at the CTIA’s E-Tech Awards. Earlier this year Suntrica was named by the GSMA as one of the 15 most innovative vendors in EMEA.
Commercially available today, the Suntrica SolarBadge™ and Suntrica SolarStrap™ are compatible with mobile phones and electronic devices including MP3 players, GPS devices and digital cameras.
Suntrica serves two crucial but very different market needs: The first is to provide the millions of consumers in emerging markets with a reliable way to charge devices in areas where there is little or no electricity. The second is to provide developed markets with an effective and environmentally friendly charger for both private and professional use.
Suntrica was founded in 2006 and has offices in Finland and Japan.
