Students, faculty and staff from The New England Institute of Art will team up on a special assignment to promote goodwill and valuable support to the community during National Week of Service April 19-25, 2009.
The New England Institute of Art students, faculty and staff are no strangers to community service. Since its inception, the school has been actively involved in community outreach with various projects ranging from the Annual Aids Walk, to Brookline Bikes, to desiging a website for Operation Comix Relief, a group that ships comic books to our troops overseas.
This year, The New England Institute of Art students, faculty and staff have partnered with The Roxbury (Yawkey) Boys and Girls Club to bring art to young men and women. In its second year, the program involves students and faculty from the College leading members of the Yawkey Boys and Girls club in a series of workshops in life drawing and writing activities.
The year-long project will culminate in a showing of the fruits on the young adults’ labor, in an art exhibit at The Gallery on the Plaza from April 22 through 25. A reception in their honor will be held Wednesday April 22 from 5 – 7 pm. The reception is open to the public and there is no charge.
“Participating in the National Week of Service complements our campus environment of serving our students and serving the community where we live and work,” says Dr. Susan C. Lane, President of The New England Institute of Art. “Giving back to the community is always the right thing to do and we are proud of the work and support our faculty, staff and students have put into this important effort.”
