One million Americans are affected by Parkinson Disease (PD) and 60,000 new patients are diagnosed each year.  60 percent of patients are age 60 or over and about 15 percent develop PD before the age of 40.  
Parkinson Disease accelerates a loss of neurons in a region of the brain called the substantia nigra. The loss of these neurons stops production of the neurotransmitter dopamine and impairs mobility as a result.
