Designed in 2007 and 2008 by Halff Associates, Phase II of the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired campus improvements includes five academic facilities: a 70,000 sf main instructional building, a 9,000 sf natatorium, , a 10,000 sf kitchen/dining building, 15,000 sf fine arts/auditorium building and 15,000 sf student activity center. Each of these is designed to meet the special requirements of teaching, learning, and supporting the community life of a residential population of blind and visually impaired students.
Collectively these five buildings provide the underlying organizing structure to the Master Plan, around which Phase III will continue to be developed.
The main instructional building establishes a new aesthetic identity at the front door of the campus and invites visitors inward to the heart of the campus and its student life – the Public Square Building.
