ABOUT THE CAROLINAS MINORITY SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT COUNCILS (CAROLINAS MSDC)

The Carolinas Minority Supplier Development Councils (Carolinas MSDC) is a non-profit corporation chartered to enhance business opportunities for minority-owned companies by providing support, through developing mutually beneficial networking opportunities with corporate members and promoting minority business development.  Certification with the Carolinas MSDC provides valuable resources to help businesses grow and succeed.  The Carolinas MSDC offers businesses an excellent opportunity to meet with corporate buyers who are interested in working with qualified MBEs.  MBEs greatly benefit from being certified with the largest national organization whose certification is recognized uniformly by corporate America.  Becoming certified also opens up opportunities and speeds up the sales process in a very competitive global market place.  The Carolinas MSDC conducts an extensive business review of new and existing MBEs.  This review, the Certification Process, is designed to insure compliance with the NMSDC member standards for certified minority business status.  Certification by the Carolinas MSDC is a nationally recognized NMSDC Certification and is honored nationwide.  General information on the national organization is available at nmsdcus.org.

Certification Criteria: To become a Certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), a business must meet requirements where both current and historical facts are considered in determining ownership qualifications and participation in the management and operations of the company.  Other criteria for certification include Financial Statements (P&L , statement of cash flows, balance sheet), applicable operating business license and/or permits, resume(s) of owner(s), partners or shareholders, contract or work history for the past three years (if applicable) (name/contact type of work performed or type of contract received), proof of bonding capacity (if applicable), notarized declaration of certification of minority status, articles of organization, and statement by a certified public accountant, which states that the applicant is a viable business concern.  Carolinas MSDC performs a site visit to review your business premises and conduct a personal interview of the owner(s). This step is performed by a Certification Specialist and the applicant.  The Certification Committee meets regularly to review applications for MBE Certification.  The Certification Committee must approve the application before it can be submitted to the Board for final approval.  The MSDC Board reviews Certification Committee's recommendations and makes the final decision.  All materials provided are kept on file and maintained in confidential filing status at the NMSDC.
