In Lira town alone the number of street children is estimated at around 2,000 and the number is increasing by the day. Most of them are young children between the ages of 5 and 17, living in horrible conditions, fending for themselves, often sleeping rough on shop verandas, roadsides etc. They often suffer physical, emotional and sexual abuse, malnutrition, and other diseases. There is no clear intervention whether by the government or an NGO in place to address this rising problem.
Lango Association wishes to invite you in a bid to build an orphanage in Lira, Northern Uganda to give these orphaned street children renewed hope by providing them with a safe haven, the necessities of life, and above all, a practical education so that they can rebuild their lives and work towards a more positive future.
These destitute, abandoned and underprivileged children are worthy of love, acceptance and the opportunity to grow up in an affirming atmosphere. The orphanage will seek to assure the all round development and well being of children by offering them education, medical care, clothes, beddings, Mosquito nets etc.
Our vision is to construct an orphanage to give education for about 1000 orphaned street children out of which 500 would be in- opportunity towards growing up into complete, independent and contributing citizens.
We are seeking for funding from our members, and friends of Lango, local and international organizations, churches, bodies and individuals who share the same vision to help in raising the estimated £150,000 required for this project.
The 10 acres of land required for the project has already been made available to Lango Association by Lira district administration. We want to thank them ever so much for their contribution.
We hope the construction of the orphanage will start in October 2009, subject to availability of funds. If you would like to be a part of the family and sponsor, co-sponsor, or donate towards this project, please do so through our website on the link below:-
