"... a unique perspective on the origins of the folk-pop phenomenon of the early sixties... an exacting portrayal of the part we played during those exciting years. Although The Highwaymen continue to perform, this book brings me back to the most incredible time in my life and to all my old friends in the Village ... About the Author
A native New Yorker, Richard E. “Nick” Noble has spent most of his adult life in New England. After earning his M.A. in History from Trinity College in Connecticut, Nick joined the teaching ranks, a vocation he has followed for more than a quarter century now. Currently, he is on the history faculty of the Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School in Marlboro, Massachusetts. Nick enjoys writing about history, while he acknowledges that, like many historians, he is not “too much encumbered by facts”. He also enjoys listening to and singing along with folk music, much to the chagrin of his teenage son and his very patient wife. He has written several books—including The Touch of Time, Brantwood, Fences of Stone, and To Honor the Trust—and has contributed to a number of others. This newest book is a real labor of love. Folk music has played a huge role in his life, and Nick has used folk songs from time to time in his classes. Nick is also the current host of “The Folk Revival” on WICN in Worcester, where he now resides. This, then, is an opportunity for him to give just a little bit back, using the story of the original Highwaymen as a canvas on which to paint a history of folk music. Of course he’s preaching to the choir. Still, while perusing its pages the reader might just start to hum along.
