April 11, 2009 - PRLog -- Troy, MI -- A free workshop is being held for all parents that have students planning on attending college in the next 2-3 years to discuss strategies to help them afford college in the midst of the economic recession.  “It’s shocking that so many parents are having a difficult time figuring out how to send their children to college.  Many families have had their incomes reduces, their credit card bills are through the roof, and their home has depreciated so they have little or no equity,” says Mike Humann, a leading expert on planning for college.  “It’s not just a matter of college admission but how a family can adjust their family budget to send all their children to school and be able to support the family financial needs,” Mike continued.  A typical family of 4 making $100,000 and one child in college could have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $21,170.  The EFC is determined from the FAFSA online application.  Just as a reference Michigan State Costs $21,948.  So this family would not receive any financial aid!

“I’ve put this workshop together to show parents that college can still be attainable, if they learn the inside secrets to getting as much free money as possible, and then where to borrow the rest at an affordable rate so they don’t go broke.”  The workshop will focus on ways to double or triple your eligibility for free college grants and scholarships, even if you make a six figure income; how to determine in advance if a school will be affordable for you, regardless of its’ sticker price; how to make sure that your family can afford to send your child to college, even if your neighbors can’t, and how to create a blueprint to receive the maximum college tuition discount and free money for college.

The class is being held at:

  Baldwin Public Library, Birmingham on April 25th at 10:15 am;
  Rochester Community House, Rochester on April 28th at 7:00 pm;
  Harper Woods Public Library, Harper Woods on April 29th at 6:45 pm

The class will last roughly 75 minutes. Seating is free, however it is limited by the size of the room and only people with confirmed reservations will be admitted. To reserve a seat call 1-866-210-0837 x 100, 24 hours a day, or on the internet at
