One of the highlights of this year’s broadcast includes Roberts accepting the award on behalf of his family, his 76 companies and nearly 1000 employees. As part of his riveting acceptance speech, Roberts shared, “I am proud to receive this very special award. As a father of four, three having completed law school and my baby in her second year of law school, I don't want you to judge me on the hundreds of millions of dollars I have made, rather you judge me on how I'm raising my babies...”
Additionally, Roberts urged America to not be swayed by the dismal depiction of today’s economy, but to instead find and focus on the opportunities that lie within a declining economy. “We can do so much more when we eliminate the fear of failure. What is that anyway? Fear is merely a mental construct. We can do so much more if we pursue our dreams and aspirations.”

The Trumpet Awards often referred to as the “Oscars” for Black America attracted a star-studded crowd and was hosted by comedian Sherri Shepherd and actor Anthony Anderson. The ceremony was broadcast from the magnificent Cobb Center in Atlanta, and the evening’s festivities included a star-studded red carpet pre-show event, followed by the awards ceremony.
