A little more than 1 year ago, the Rockit for Kids band members had the privilege of jamming on stage at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ with the legendary musicians of the Marshall Tucker Band. Now, as Doug Gray and the rest of the band roll back into Red Bank for their April 10th performance, the young musicians of Rockit for Kids will once again have the distinct honor of returning to the stage for Friday’s opener.
Rockit For Kids is a Red Bank based music program for young musicians, which gives kids an instant opportunity to play live Rock & Roll with their peers, bringing them together to perform as an accomplished band. The program is primarily for kids between the ages of 8 and 16 who audition live for a chance to be a part of the next live concert.
As a member of the group, each week for 6 weeks, students attend a 55-minute band class with specialized instructors in preparation for a live concert to be performed in front of a packed audience. The end result is a well-orchestrated ensemble of young rockers who perform classic and modern rock and roll center-stage at their headlining concert event. This year, the group’s founder, Bruce Gallipani, is celebrating five years of live performance.
According to Gallipani, the last audition brought out 100 talented young rockers. Unfortunately, not all can make it into the program. However, Bruce says he leaves his phone number for kids who didn’t make it into the band to call him. He explains what they need to work on and practice for the next audition date, when they can again have another chance to make the band.
Auditions for the next Rockit concert/program will be in June for the upcoming August concert. Any parents of talented musicians are encouraged to enroll in the program. Registration is open to guitarists, drummers, vocalists, bassists, keyboardists, and brass and string players.
