With all of the plant closings, layoffs, and cutbacks happening across the nation, especially within the heart of the Big 3, Michigan, change is happening as well. The government has issued Fiat - Chrysler and General Motors with a stimulus package in order to supply each own parts suppliers with funds for retooling.

There are about 4000 total automotive suppliers in with these major companies use to stay alive within the automotive industry. As the Big 3 have suffered tremendously, so also have their parts suppliers. The whole nation has felt the affects of this downturn.

Recently Fiat has stressed its plan to take an initial 20% stake in Chrysler LLC will not involve any cash payment, but has not disclosed the cost of retooling plants to produce its own-brand cars, a key part of securing U.S. regulatory approval by an April 30 deadline.
