April 8, 2009 - PRLog -- Vijayraghavgarh is a fort made in around 1826 by Thakur Prayagdas, son of Maihar King - Bishan Singh. Vijayraghavgarh is about 35km. away from Katni City. Vijayraghavgarh fort is surrounded by a deep trench aroud it just like in Red fort of Delhi. Most of the fort is constructed using red sand-stone that is carried from near-by area.

Fort is dedicated to lord Vijayraghav and has sita-temple, soldier barack, kitchen, toilet, samadhi etc. in it. Vijayraghav fort has evidenced famous revolt of 1857 which is turning point in Indian Freedom struggle. King Prayagdas took part in freedom struggle in 1857 and blocked the supply line of EastIndia company  force (Jabalpur-Kolkata). But with the help of Rewa-King, British forces won the battle and Prayagdas was captured by police. He was produced in court and death punishment has been awarded to him. Prayagdas was hanged till death and his Samadhi(shrine) was made in Katni city. At present given shrine became victim of ignorance and turned into garbage dumping area. Some of the captured soldiers were sent to Jabalpur jail. While transfering them from Vijayraghavgarh to Jabalpur, some of the were hanged on the trees present on the both sides of National Highway number-7 at Sleemnabad town. Sleemnabad is about 30 kms away from Katni on Jabalpur road.

At present Vijayraghavgarh is a small town. No one from Royal family lives in fort but on some special occasions, they do visit Vijayraghav fort.  
One can reach Vijayraghav-garh fort by traveling from Katni city(35kms). Road condition is good. Their no entrance fee to visit the fort. One care-taker cum guide is available at Vijayraghav-garh fort.

While traveling from Khajuraho to Bandhavgarh or vice-versa, one can visit Vijayraghavgarh fort enroute and learn more about heritage & culture of Central India. Sight-seeing of fort needs about 45-60 mins. If any one staying in Bandhavgarh, he can also visit Vijayraghavgarh fort. Fort is about 90 kms./2hrs from Bandhavgarh. So it is easy to visit Vijayraghavgarh fort while staying in Bandhavgarh via Barhi town.
