Prom Dress Giveaway!

“The Magic Wand Project” – An Initiative Dedicated To Providing Evening Dresses and Tuxedos to High School Students hosts its 2009 giveaway in Baltimore and DC.

(BALTIMORE/WASHINGTON, D.C.,) Wedding and event planning firms, Black Bag Productions and Events of Sophistication have geared up for another year of helping area students enjoy a special prom night.  The firms collaborated in 2008 to launch The Magic Wand Project.  Its mission is to provide prom attire for young men and women whose families are not able to afford the costs of gowns and tuxedos.  Charitable donations of new and gently used cocktail and evening gowns/dresses, shoes and accessories, such as wraps, purses and jewelry for the young ladies and black tuxedos and suits, along with shoes and accessories such as vests, ties and cufflinks for the young men are requested.

To make prom night more special, The Magic Wand Project will hold a raffle at each pre-prom distribution event.  The grand prize for the lucky winner will be a chauffeured limousine to the prom, corsage and boutonnière for the couple and a gift certificate for two at a specially selected restaurant.  

The Magic Wand Project hosts official drop-offs for the donations prior to prom season as well as Magic Wand parties where students are able to select their formal attire and receive special gifts.  Upcoming parties and donation drop-offs for spring 2009 are scheduled for:

Diane Freeland is a certified wedding planner and member of the Association of Bridal Consultants.  She received her wedding planning certification from the Wedding Planning Institute in 2006 and shortly thereafter launched Events of Sophistication.  Planning fabulous weddings and events is her goal and clients are offered a wide array of services to assist in creating their signature wedding or event by incorporating personal style and class.

Kim Moss is an event planner specializing in corporate and non-profit event planning and production.  She has 15 years of event planning experience that includes high profile political and celebrity studded events, conferences, gala and fundraising event productions, weddings, fashion shows and private parties.  Creating unforgettable events is her passion and clients know she puts love into the details when creating their event and provides excellence in the planning and execution of their event.

In February 2008, after once more noticing the two identically designed, different color bridesmaids gowns in her closet that would never be worn again, Diane Freeland, Owner of wedding and event planning firm, Events of Sophistication approached Kim Moss, Owner of event planning firm, Black Bag Productions with the idea of collecting gowns/dresses and shoes for young high school women to wear to the junior and senior proms as well as tuxedos and accessories for young men are also collected. Within 48 hours of the first email and conversation, The Magic Wand Project (TMWP) was founded. Shears Hair Salon, in Washington, DC once again volunteered to be the official beauty salon for 2009 Magic Wand Project participants providing hair and make-up services free of charge when they present their official Magic Wand gift certificate at the time of their appointment.
