With the coming cottage season, thoughts once again turn to enjoying the great outdoors.
Voltek Enterprises
has developed a new tool in the fight against insect-borne diseases like the West Nile Virus
and Malaria. The 'helmets' crafted from reticulated foam, which is actually 96% air and has been used as an air filter in many household appliances for years. Because the reticulated foam functions as a three dimensional mesh, it prevents the flying insects from getting within biting range of the user's skin .
Founder and President George Volgyesi describes the inspiration behind the head gear: In spite of wearing heavy clothing up to my neck, my face was covered by insect bites at places where I missed applying DEET. I decided then and there to design protective headgear, so I could enjoy nature at leisure without the scourge of insect bites.
