The Ukrainian National Museum is pleased to announce the opening of “A Kaleidoscope of Vivid Images and Colors “ by Orest Poliszczuk. Well known in both the United States and Canada through his group and one man shows, Orest Poliszczuk continues to attract and enchant audiences with his signature style. The opening of the exhibit is May 1, 2009 at 7:00 pm at the Ukrainian National Museum. The exhibit will continue through May 31, 2009.
Mr. Poliszczuk brings his vivid visions to canvas utilizing classic subjects in flowing forms with dynamic colors and textures. His signature style encompases bold graphics and geometric shapes with traditional Ukrainian cultural symbols that convey a story without words. In addition to his work as a fine artist, he is a dedicated Professor of Art at Montgomery College, where in his 42nd year he shows no signs of slowing down. In 2008, the Orest S. Poliszczuk Sculpture Scholarship was established. Mr. Poliszczuk is the recipient of many awards and recognitions including of the Montgomery College Outstanding Faculty Award, (2003-2004) and Excellence in Teaching: “Teacher of the Year” Award (1999). He has also enjoyed commissions for his work throughout the United States.
Born in Lviv, Ukraine in 1942, Orest’s family fled to Germany just prior to the complete Communist takeover of the country. He spent his early childhood in various displaced persons camps for Eastern European refugees. It wasn’t until 1949 that the family immigrated to the United States, taking up permanent residence in Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Poliszczuk received his B.A. degree and M.A. from the University of Maryland.
