FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Apr 07, 2009 -
Data loss, breach of intellectual property, pandemic outbreaks and cyber-security leaks -- these are just a few of the challenges that enterprise risk management and security professionals must face. The 2009 Secure360 Conference http://www.secure360.org will highlight solutions to new and evolving security threats to people, property and processes.

This world-class conference features national and regional security experts, dozens of educational seminars in six diverse security tracks, a trade show, and exceptional networking opportunities.  The event, sponsored by the Upper Midwest Security Alliance, will be held May 12 - 13, 2009 at Saint Paul RiverCentre in Saint Paul, Minn.

This year’s keynote speakers include Howard Schmidt, president and CEO of R&H Consulting http://www.networkworld.com/news/2008/031108-howard-schmi... and Dave Kansas, financial journalist and author of the newly-released book The Wall Street Guide to the End of Wall Street As We Know It http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1006....   A St. Paul native now living in New York, Kansas is editor-at-large of FiLife.com. Previously he was editor of Wall Street Journal’s “Money and Investing” section and editor of TheStreet.com.

"This year’s conference features presentations by nationally and regionally-known experts and thought leaders in the security field,” said UMSA President Todd White. “Today, we’re faced with new and evolving security threats to people, property and processes, which include data loss, breach of intellectual property, pandemic outbreaks, cyber-security leaks and others. Solutions to these threats include risk management, data loss prevention, preparedness plans, audit and control systems, disaster recovery planning, enterprise security programs and others.”

Following are featured presenters, who will speak at 10:30 – 11:45 a.m. on May 12:

Security at the Crossroads: Where Are We Headed? - Security visionary Dr. Whitfield Diffie, Vice President/Sun Fellow/Chief Security Officer of Sun Microsystems, will explore the technical and social aspects of computer security, and weigh in on how preconceived ideas will be tested before the decade is out. During his presentation, he’ll focus on computer security, the impact of outsourcing on the state of security and new trends to watch for.

Workplace Violence During Troubled Economic Times – Garry Mathiason, J.D., Senior Shareholder/Partner, Littler Mendelson, will talk about how workplace violence and threats are increasing for the first time in a decade. His presentation will focus on “workplace bullying” and the legislative and legal responses to it. Find out how employers are responding to “bring your gun to work” laws and the new role of technology from cyber-stalking to cell phone surveillance.

The Convergence of Information Security, Privacy and Compliance – Rebecca Herold, Owner & Principal, Rebecca Herold & Associates, LLC will focus on privacy and information security breaches and why they increasingly make headlines around the world. She’ll discuss the rapidly increasing risk related to issues like records management, which is being driven primarily by e-discovery, business continuity/recovery, and secure disposal of records. This is causing privacy to now span a number of convergent fields, such as law, information security, and compliance.

The Anatomy of Security Disasters - Marcus Ranum, Chief Security Officer, Tenable Security, Inc. and world-renowned expert on security system design and implementation will present the key themes resulting from a typical meltdown including why security disasters happen and why they will never stop happening.

How to Survive Recession, Bankruptcy, Mergers and Downsizing - Fred Klapetzky, Managing Director, South & West Business Continuity, Risk Management Practice Leader, Marsh USA, Inc. will focus on the risks and realities of maintaining a reasonable preparedness level and requisite staffing, while consolidating, cutting and curtailing costs.
