Taking a stand against rising unemployment figures, a new online community for unemployed people is setting out to show that there’s hope after redundancy.

Whether you’re recently laid-off, longer-term unemployed or just fearful what the future might hold, www.tweenjo.com offers advice, support and inspiration.

The motto of the website is ‘there’s life between jobs’, and www.tweenjo.com offers expert advice on how to make redundancy an opportunity, whether it’s taking advantage of the chance to train, travel the world, start a new business, change careers completely, or simply get back to work.

Crucially, the site centres around stories from real people who have been there and are battling the challenges thrown up by redundancy. It features inspirational blogs from writers who have turned their redundancies into something positive. There are also lively forums where you can swap stories, experiences and advice with others in the same position.

The site is also a goldmine of practical expert advice, from an emergency action plan on what to do as soon as you’re let go, to ideas on taking career break travel, clever ways to find work and how to decide on your next step.

Stephen Adshead and co-founder Alex Dean are the brains behind the venture, which came about when Stephen, concerned about his own job security, turned to the internet for help.

He says: “I was shocked to see that there's little out there for people in this situation, so I decided to create a website that changes this by offering a positive take on redundancy. I’m certain there’s nothing else like this website in the UK.”

“We’re confident it will be a success as it fills an important gap in the market. We’ve already signed up advertisers as we’re offering a new and engaged audience.

“Ironically, I did eventually lose my job so the thinking behind the site is based on real experience. I suppose in a way I’m the proof that losing your job can be the start of something fantastic. And this is just the start - as more people use the site and contribute their own experiences, the more our online community will grow .”
