| Beverly Hills cosmetic dermatologist, Doctor Simon Ourian M.D. discusses laser hair removal and the best way to treat bikini bumps and razor bumps. |
Epione Medical Corporation - Beverly Hills
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PR Log (Press Release) –
Apr 06, 2009 – Doctor Simon Ourian is the Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills, located in the exclusive shopping, restaurant and hotel enclave in Los Angeles, California. When Doctor Ourian opened his clinic more than ten years ago he quickly became one of the busiest laser hair removal providers in the area.
“I spent the first years building my practice doing every laser hair removal treatment myself and I’ve seen it all,” says Doctor Ourian. For some patients the laser hair removal is purely an aesthetic procedure; they have hair on their body that they don’t want and they know that laser hair removal is the simplest, most cost-effective way to achieve their goals. For others it’s about convenience; laser hair removal allows them to stop being a slave to their razor. No more time spent shaving legs or armpits.
“But for others”, explains Doctor Ourian, “laser hair removal can be life altering. I’ve treated women who have spent their teens and even their twenties hiding their faces because of unwanted facial hair. It can really be traumatizing and helping someone like that is one of the most rewarding things I do.”
“Between those extremes,” continues Doctor Ourian, “are the men and women I treat that suffered for years from razor bumps. It’s not a life threatening condition but if you’re prone to them you really do suffer every time you pick up a razor.”
The scientific name for razor bumps is pseudofolliculitis barbae or PFB. PFB is caused by the process of shaving with a blade or razor. The hair is cut at an angle, making it sharp. Curly hair then may twist back toward and puncture the skin and become ingrown. The end result is bumps and skin irritation. In men razor bumps most commonly occur on the neck and face. Men with course or curly hair are especially prone to razor bumps. It is thought that as many as 30% of African American men suffer from this affliction. For women the bikini area is the most commonly affected. Many women who shave their bikini line suffer from irritated skin.
Laser hair removal is an excellent option for treating razor bumps because the treatment involves destroying hair follicles. Simply put, with there’s no hair there’s no opportunity for ingrown hairs.
“What is the best Razor Bump Fix?” asks Dr. Ourian. “I’ve been practicing as a cosmetic dermatologist for over ten years” continues Doctor Ourian, “and in my opinion the technology we use at Epione for laser hair removal achieves results superior to other modalities and lasers. Despite what the ads you see or the magazine articles you read may tell you, no skin care product or cream is likely to give you the results you want.”
