Writer Debra Leigh Scott reads from her new novel at MilkBoy in Bryn Mawr

Mad Poets Society and MilkBoy Acoustic Cafe welcome award-winning writer and playwright Debra Leigh Scott on April 9 at 7 p.m., to read from her novel-in-progress, AFTER PIETY.

Debra Leigh Scott, writer, playwright and arts edu-preneur, joins poet Bill Wunder and the Mad Poets Society on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at MilkBoy at 824 West Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr, PA to read from her work-in-progress, Leaving Piety, the second novel in her Favaloro trilogy, a three-generation family saga of life in America during the first half of the 20th Century. The first novel of the trilogy, PIETY STREET, set in turn-of-the-century New Orleans, will be published this year by New Door Books. Her short fiction has appeared both nationally and internationally in literary magazines; a collection of her short stories, OTHER LIKELY STORIES, will be published this year by Sowilo Press.

The outspoken Founding Director of the arts-support organization Hidden River Arts, Debra has lectured extensively on issues of arts education, special education and the arts, pay equity for educators, and alternative educational methodology for alternative learners. She is currently involved with a documentary/book project called 'JUNCT: THE TRASHING OF HIGHER ED. IN AMERICA, and is beginning a speaking tour (www.junctrebellion.com) in the attempt to call attention to the damage that over-use of low-paid contingency faculty has on the quality of higher education. She is also involved in educational outreach through Hidden River Writers (www.hiddenriverwriters.com), a newly-developed program of Hidden River Arts, which offers free online podcasts and lessons, a program of eLessons, tutorials, workshops and other educational supports to aspiring writers of all ages, Pre-K through adult.
