Dr. Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills, located in the exclusive shopping, restaurant and hotel enclave in Los Angeles, California knows all fad diets and radical weight loss techniques. The gossip magazines breathlessly cover the body, diet and weight travails of celebrities from Oprah Winfrey to Britney Spears to Jennifer Aniston. Are they too skinny? Are they too fat? What is the secret “Hollywood Diet” that allows a starlet to drop so much weight she’s now a size zero?
“All too often the answer is apparent,” laments Doctor Ourian, “these celebrities cut their calorie intake to near zero. If you fast or consume a near starvation level of calories you will lose weight. But I certainly don’t recommend this. It’s very unhealthy and is a short term solution at best. And the very real dangers of anorexia and bulimia are enormous topics in their own right.”
“If they ask,” continues Doctor Ourian, “I’ll tell a patient that the key to maintaining weight loss and preventing weight gain is a healthy low fat diet. Of course, regular exercise will help you burn fat. I’m very happy to help anyone I can to lose fat and get a jump start on their new body.”
One unfortunate side effect of significant weight loss is stretch marks. Stretch marks are a kind of scar. The underlying layer of the skin is called the dermis; a stretch mark occurs when there is a breakdown is elastin and collagen fibers that make up the dermis. The scientific name for stretch marks is striae or irregular areas of skin that look like lines, stripes or bands. Striae typically appear as red, thinned skin and may turn whitish over time. Stretch marks are commonly found on the thighs, buttocks, flanks, hips and breasts.
Another common cause of stretch marks is pregnancy. “Many women come to see me after giving birth and it really is exciting to know that I can help them”, says a smiling Doctor Ourian, “and the gratitude of these new moms is humbling.”
What does a Coolbeam™ session fell like? According to Doctor Ourian “Typically patients liken it to the snapping of a rubber band. If a patient is very sensitive to pain, I can prescribe a topical anesthetic cream to help alleviate any discomfort.”
“As the Medical Director of Epione I have been practicing as a cosmetic dermatologist for more than ten years,” continues Doctor Ourian, “and I believe that the Coolbeam™ achieves results superior to other modalities and lasers. Despite what the advertisements may tell you, no cream or skin care product is likely to give you the results you want.”
