You can improve the ROI of broadcast and video systems by properly monitoring them. The top mistake made when monitoring broadcast and video equipment is assuming that IT monitoring will do it. The problems of traditional monitoring are:
1. Much data is not watched because it is not available by SNMP or WMI.
2. No media tracking. If the media doesn't get there or play it doesn't matter that the status is green.
3. Lack of enterprise support and ability to follow media all over the country or the world.
4. Slow data collection, reliance on SNMP Traps to show the big problems. Most broadcast equipment doesn't do traps. Also if you need status of 2000 satellite receivers the serial polling cannot return the data fast enough to be of much use.
