In either case, the word has caused controversy because of its ties to antagonistic attitudes toward blacks. Writer invites readers to share their views.
By: Dion Communications, LLC Most blacks despise the “n” word because it reminds them of past racism, segregation and violence towards their people. However, many blacks and rap musicians have claimed to take ownership of the word as a sense of empowerment. Dion writes on her blog, “I can’t see the artistic or social quality of using it with images of money, gangs, scantily clad women and guns. I don’t want ownership of any of that.” Even some Latinos began using it to identify with the struggle of oppression. “Yes, I hate the word and I’m one of those people who thinks everyone should stop using it,” Dion writes in one post, but her research also reveals other uses of the word that might enlighten those who use it and those who loathe it. Anyone who enjoys a stimulating and candid exchange of opinions is encouraged to join the discussion. # # # About Dion Communications, LLC: Angela Dion is a writer whose articles have appeared in more than 150 publications.
