Dengler Demolition then removed the aluminum sheeting from the outside of the boiler building, this was accomplished by using a CAT 330 Excavator with a long reach boom & stick and custom grapple. Once the shell was off the building, the steel struructures surronding the boilers were removed with a Kobelco 330 Excavator with a large shear. The steel beams that were to large for the excavator to shear were cut utilizing labor with cutting torches. Once the outter structure was removed from around the boilers, the boilers were cut into three sections using torches. Each section was lowered off its foundation to a concrete pad were the shear could access the boiler piping and process it down to size. After the boilers were removed the only thing that remained standing were the boiler foundations and 125 ft. steel smokestack. The steel smokestack was very close to a busy rail line. Dengler forces rigged and dropped the smokestack to the exact inch of were it needed to land. The smokestack was then processed by a shear mounted excavator.
Ninety-five percent (95%) of all materials on this project were recycled. All the steel and metals were sent offsite to local mills and scrap yards for reuse. All the concrete was hauled offsite to local recycling centers for crush and reuse.
The project was completed on schedule, on budget without accident, injury or incident.
