Axiell makes its I-Tag RFID Solution available to all libraries

April 2, 2009 - PRLog -- Axiell (formerly DS) announces that its unique RFID solution for libraries, I-Tag, is now available to all libraries, regardless of the library management system they use. Axiell is the market leader in business solutions for UK public libraries and archives and part of the Axiell Library Group AB.

Jim Burton, Managing Director of Axiell in the UK, explained why Axiell had decided to extend the I-Tag offering to libraries who were not currently Axiell customers. “Because the I-Tag solution complies with all required standards for RFID integration it has always been technically possible for Talis, Infor or Sirsi-Dynix users, for example, to adopt our RFID offering. We initially concentrated on offering I-Tag to users of our OpenGalaxy library management system: over a third of UK public libraries but can now offer I-Tag to users of any library management system. The business case for RFID is well proven and demand is increasing from non-Axiell customers following from the success of I–Tag in a number of high-profile implementations, in particular in the new Crawley Library.”

The I-Tag solution encompasses all aspects of self-service, stock management, and security. The self-service option has been a huge success, with customers achieving self-service rates of over 90%, while the amount of staff time spent on day-to-day housekeeping tasks can be reduced by over 80% through use of the I-Tag shelf-reading solution and stock management software.

The latest success for I-Tag came in the form of the prestigious new Crawley Library, opened by West Sussex County Council in December 2008. A landmark in building design, the new Crawley Library has been designed to take advantage of the most up-to-date facilities and technologies. RFID-enabled stock was a key feature of the design, and Axiell was involved in discussions on how the new technology could be incorporated from an early stage.

The resulting library has been acclaimed by staff and customers alike, and the I-Tag self-service solution in particular has exceeded all expectations. Lesley Sym, Service Manager – Libraries, for West Sussex was thrilled with the way in which the new library has been received, "I am delighted with the popularity of the new library and in particular with the way customers and staff have taken to RFID; the ease of use and reliability of the system is key to this success."
