April 2, 2009 - PRLog -- Las Vegas based-writer Chad Clinton Freeman is leveraging his entertainment site PollyStaffle.com in announcing the launch of the recently formed production company Polly Staffle Films.

Freeman, the writer of five feature-length screenplays in development and a limitless mental catalog of future scripts, says his production company will be consistent with the PollyStaffle.com brand. The site’s two promotional taglines are “Home of the entertainment dark side” and “Girls, Guns & Gore.”

The first project of Polly Staffle Films is a movie short which will be produced as part of the 48 Hour Film Project in Las Vegas. The event takes place April 17-19 and commences the 48 Hour Film Project’s 2009 season.

After more than 15 years in the newspaper business, Freeman, a native of Southeast Texas and Lamar University graduate, decided to view the current economy as an opportunity and finally realize his dreams.

“Historically, many of the most successful companies have started in recessions,” Freeman said. “Why not Polly Staffle Films? As the lines between the online digital and theatrical experiences blur, our production company will be at the forefront of driving the revolution. Take a negative and make it into a positive. That’s a theme I love in movies, and that’s exactly what I have decided to do.”

The slow death of newspapers and his passion for movies is what originally led Freeman to found PollyStaffle.com in 2006 as a hobby writing film reviews. PollyStaffle.com quickly became more than a spare-time recreational pursuit

“With Chad’s often times humorous and sometimes very persuasive reviews, he was able to build a following of more than 100,000 unique visitors a month,” said Velvet Hammer Films co-founder Sean Cain, the director of “Naked Beneath the Water.” “PollyStaffle.com has become more than a popular Web site. It’s a haven for filmmakers on the edge. That’s an important niche that Hollywood doesn’t always recognize. These type of artists are always the ones driving both innovation and the evolution of art.”

The entertainment site receives extremely targeted traffic and focuses on independent and genre films, while celebrating individuality, diversity, creativity, empowerment and community.

Freeman credits the Web site for helping him grow as an artist, honing his writing and promotional skills, as well as expanding his already burgeoning knowledge of cinema. Along the way, he has helped generate media attention and expand the networking circles for a number of independent filmmakers, and he ultimately began getting involved in their productions.

His credits include producer (Shane Ryan’s “Amateur Porn Star Killer 3D: Inside the Head,” Reagan Redding’s “Killer Biker Chicks”), credited cast member (Sean Cain’s “Silent Night, Zombie Night,” Keith Mosher’s “One Long Day”) and production assistant (Chris Gabriel’s “Devotion” and the Almost Famous Film Festival short “Patient Zero”).

The 48 Hour Film Project will be Freeman’s directorial debut. The event features nearly 40 teams competing to make a short in two days. On April 17, the teams are told what genre they will be working with and what elements they have to include in the film. They then have that night, all Saturday and Sunday till 7 p.m. to write, cast, shoot, edit, score, complete and turn in the project.

So after years of critiquing the work of others, Freeman, a fan of Herschell Gordon Lewis, Quentin Tarantino, Larry Clark and Zack Snyder, is looking forward to putting himself out there to be judged.

“It’s scary. Film critics and journalists … they’re heartless jerks,” Freeman joked. “Seriously though, I’m a big guy. I can take it, and I am looking forward to the challenges and opportunities of telling compelling stories that audiences can’t help but embrace.”

Although he said he is not at liberty to provide specifics yet, Freeman said his project has “a top director of photography with multiple feature films under his belt, a talented special effects/makeup department, an editor with two features, a rapidly rising Scream Queen, a super fantastic location, cool stuff for the soundtrack and a number of other talented people on the cast and crew.”

Buddy film, comedy, detective/cop, drama, fantasy, film de femme, holiday film, horror, mockumentary, musical or western, romance, science fiction, superhero and thriller/suspense are the possible genres that teams competing in the 48 Hour Film Project will receive. They also will have to incorporate a character, a prop and a line of dialogue that they will receive at the kickoff of the event.

The rules for 48 hour projects are that no one is to be paid. Everyone is a volunteer, but teams are allowed to have sponsors, executive producers and donations for their budgets as long as they do not exceed $75,000. Freeman is currently looking for help with his budget and is offering in exchange: special thanks on the credits for $20-$50 and sponsorship thanks/executive producer credit for $100 and up. Sponsorships include product placement and/or logo placement for businesses, Web sites and artists. Interested parties can contact Freeman by emailing CCF@PollyStaffle.com.

After screening at The Palms in Las Vegas on April 22, the winning short will screen at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2010. It will also compete against films from around the world for the title “Best 48 Hour Film of 2009.” The top short could also be a part of the project’s 2009 best of DVD.
