On March 28th, young women from all over the state of Kentucky came together for the inaugural year of Miss Teen Kentucky- World and Miss Kentucky - US International. Miss Teen Kentucky-World, 2009, was awarded to Shannen Bria Reil, of Paintsville, Kentucky and Miss Kentucky-US International was awarded to Jesslyn Long, of Stanford, representing the Miss Lexington preliminary title during the event. The age divisions in this competition were preteen (9-12), teen (13-17) and Miss (18-25). Miss Pre Teen Kentucky - World was awarded to Jesslyn Long of Richmond Kentucky. The judging categories were swimsuit, evening gown, interview, and beauty/poise (for preteens, casual wear replaced swimsuit). As for the venue, the Miss Teen Kentucky-World and Miss Kentucky-US International pageants were held together at Somerset's Center for Rural Development. "We were blessed to be able to obtain such a gorgeous facility for this event and to be welcomed by such a great host hotel as the Hampton Inn in Somerset", says Executive Director, Lisa Clark, "We feel that as a result of the efforts of all volunteers and businesses in and around Somerset, we saw some remarkable achievements. Our celebrity judges were Farah Fath of One Life to Live, John Paul Lavoisier of One Life to Live, Mrs. Ohio, 2007, Christine Wright, and Kelly Anne Beile who is not only well versed in television and pageants, but is also Miss Kentucky US Beauty 2009 and family member to Naomi, Wynonna, and Ashley Judd."
$130,000 in college scholarship offers and prizes were awarded on March 28th, as well as many other category awards and trophies. The new Miss Teen Kentucky-World and the new Miss Kentucky US International, aside from college scholarship offers, won prize packages valued at over $10,000, including competition wardrobe for her national competition held in Houston in June, 2009. Among prizes given to the two title holders are dental enhancement (Miss Teen Kentucky-World)
The future goal of this pageant and it's current city and county title holders is to bring a heightened awareness and excessive reward to young women through an additional outlet in Kentucky, promoting scholastic achievement, community involvement and a healthy lifestyle.
