Miss California International 2009’s Golf Ball Drop was held at the River Ridge Golf Course yesterday after being wind delayed from its original scheduled date of March 22nd. Fortunately yesterday was a BEAUTIFUL day in Ventura County, a significant improvement over the 38 mph winds that forced the Golf Ball Drop to be postponed just a few days earlier.
Three hundred seventy-five golf balls were dropped onto the golf course from a helicopter hovering over the golf course, and then the fun of measurement began. The ball closest to the flag won the grand prize which was a 3 or 4 day Mexican Riviera cruise. The next 4 closest balls won other prizes which included: the rental and 300 miles of a 32' RV, weekend stay at Apple Farms in San Luis Obispo, and a weekend stay at a resort in Cancun.
Hilary Gushwa, Miss California International 2009, would like publicly thank the Optimist Club of Simi Valley for their support and efforts, River Ridge Golf Club for providing a stunning venue, and Aspen Helicopters for making sure it was a safe trip. Hilary would also like to thank John B. Mueller Photography for getting such amazing shots of event and everyone who purchased golf balls to support The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through her Woman of the Year Campaign. Each donation will help to find a cure for blood cancers!
