STOCKHOLM - On June 3 the Winter Garden at Grand Hotel in Stockholm will turn into a global hub for sustainable development. H.R.H. Swedish Crown Princess Victoria will present the winners of the leading sustainability award – the Globe Award 2009.
This year Globe Award has become more significant than ever as nominations from all around the world are accepted. The new jury, with the top names in sustainable development, ensures that the most innovative and visionary scientists, innovators, cities and businesses will be highlighted.
The goal of the Globe Award, this year presented for the third time, is to discover and encourage researchers, innovators, cities and companies that are prominent in sustainable development. Globe Award highlights and rewards good cases and initiatives. Globe Award has four categories: Sustainability Research Award, Sustainability Innovation Award, Sustainable City Award and the Sustainability Reporting Award.
Four jury groups, each with highly experienced and internationally recognized experts will assess the nominees. The jury is chaired by Lars-Olle Larsson, Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers Sweden.
– It is necessary to support research and innovation to find solutions to the present problems related to climate change, poverty and welfare development. It is also crucial for the future to motivate large companies and cities to adaptation, change and transparency, leading towards sustainable development. A Globe Award demonstrates pro-activity and best practice in the largest challenges we have ever faced, says Chairman of the Globe Award jury Lars-Olle Larsson.
Chairman of the jury group for the best Sustainable Research is Mohan Munasinghe, 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, and Vice Chairman of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
– The Globe Sustainability Research Award is a premier prize that recognizes innovative and outstanding contributions to advance the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development, says Mohan Munasinghe, Chairman of the jury group for the Sustainability Research Award.
Researchers, innovators, cities and companies can apply to be nominated for the Globe Award. More information can be found at www.globeaward.org.
