Office Zone Announces New Line of “Safer” Paper Shredders

In the past, paper shredders have gotten a lot of heat for not being more child and animal safe. Thanks to recent improvements and response to feedback, paper shredders now implement several features designed to prevent dangerous injuries.

KAYSVILLE, Utah  – Office Zone has carried paper shredders online for over 12 years and has seen many trends in the paper shredder industry. The latest trend is the release of more child and animal friendly paper shredders. While paper shredders should still be treated with respect, several new features are being implemented in paper shredders that make them safer to use. Office Zone is excited to carry these newer, safer shredders.

Although rare, there are documented cases of animals and children getting hurt by paper shredders. Due to optical sensors on papers shredders, that automatically turn shredders on and off when paper is inserted, some injuries have occurred. As a result of the optical sensor, as soon as a finger or tongue enter the shredder, the shredder turns on. These injuries can be painful and sometimes disfiguring. In very rare cases, for animals, they can be fatal.

Although the convenience of optical sensors has not been eliminated, modifications have been made to make them safer. The most significant improvements have been to the shredder blades and the opening of the paper shredder. These improvements can be found on most paper shredders Office Zone sells.

The shredder blades on most new paper shredders have been recessed into the paper shredder. This makes it much harder for a finger to reach the shredder blades. Older paper shredders had the shredder blades sitting very close to the surface of the paper shredder, which increased the chance of an accident.

Another modification made to newer shredders is to the shredder opening. The opening on many new paper shredders is now curved, rather than straight. This means paper and other material being placed in a paper shredder has to curve a little before reaching the shredder blades. This means the shredder blades are not even visible and are very hard to manually access.

Office Zone has additional paper shredder safety recommendations. If you are not using the shredder and have pets or children around, it is still recommended to unplug the shredder. It is also recommended not to wear loose hanging jewelry or clothing while operating a shredder. Those with long hair should keep it up to prevent it from entering the shredder.
