Tulsa, OK – On April 25, 2009, The National Stripper Well Association (NSWA) will take a moment to recognize some of America’s true energy pioneers when it hosts its third-annual Energy Gala in Dallas, Texas. This year’s special honoree will be the late L. Frank Pitts, founder of Pitts Oil Company and Dallas Production, Inc. David B. Miller, co-founder and partner of EnCap Investments, LP will pay tribute to Pitts along with other industry leaders.
“This will be a wonderful evening, and we are looking forward to paying tribute to a man that contributed so much to our industry through the years. We have all been saddened by the loss of one of our industry’s true heroes. Mr. Pitts was always at the forefront of any battle to keep our stripper wells producing the much-needed domestic oil and natural gas that America needs. Leaders like Mr. Pitts are exactly what the industry needs in today’s challenging times,” said Dewey Bartlett, Jr., Chairman of the NSWA.
A dynamic spokesman for the U.S. energy industry and an independent oil and natural gas producer for over 65 years, Mr. Pitts had participated in the drilling of more than 3,000 wells in exploration for oil and natural gas. For 12 years, he served as chief executive officer of an international geophysical company. Mr. Pitts had also been actively involved in a wide range of industry associations and political action groups, having served two terms as President of Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association and was a founding Trustee of the American Gas Association and member of the National Petroleum Council -- an advisory group to the Secretary of the Department of Energy. He served in this capacity under every Secretary since the inception of the Department in 1977. In 1984, Texas Governor Mark White appointed Mr. Pitts to the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, an organization headed by the governors of 29 oil and gas producing states. Mr. Pitts continuously served under appointment of all the subsequent Texas Governors.
