Paris Alexander is currently accepting registration for a Spring stone carving workshop in his sculpture studio. The student will learn fundamental stone carving techniques while designing and executing their own work of art. Stone and tools will be provided. The class is seven weeks on Saturdays from 10am to 12:30 pm from May 2 through June 20, 2009. This class is for students that have little or no stone carving experience with an occasional seasoned pro. The workshop is kept informative but casual with the emphasis on everyone leaving with a stone carving that they would be proud to show off.
Paris Alexander was born and raised in New York City where he studied art from early childhood. Since moving to North Carolina twenty years ago, Alexander’s work has been exhibited widely including galleries, universities, and museums, with numerous public and private commissions. His work is included in the collection of Saks Fifth Avenue, the R.C. Kessler Collection, SAS Institute, former president Bill Clinton, Senator Bob Dole, and many others. Paris is also a well-known instructor in sculpture, drawing, and anatomy for the artist. Besides teaching privately, he has been an instructor for several NC Arts councils, the Artspace Arts and Outreach Programs, and the NC Museum of Art Outreach Program.
