March 29, 2009 Tallahassee, Florida -- It began with one telephone call from an enthusiastic FAMU sophomore student, Honesty Brennan. And just like that, she was on her way to becoming one of the most influential young voices on the Internet and digital college circuit.
After placing her vote for the Ultimate Dream Concert - a fan-based mega-concert event tentatively scheduled for summer, 2009, Honesty began to wonder whether the people overseeing UDC were maximizing their exposure in the market that she was an intrinsic and constituent part of. She recognized that the college and university would openly embrace the concept.
"It seemed really basic to me. College students inherently long to set the pace or path for fashion and entertainment. UDC represented absolute control by the fans which is the quintessential dream of every college student," explained Honesty.
A call was scheduled with two women that Honesty has since adopted as mentors - a legend in the industry who is" barely over the age of 30, Kimberly Diane, Strategic Alliance Director of 3G Live Media & Entertainment, and "the Genius" and Internet marketing diva, Vanessa Carmack of Posh Platinum. Carmack's team scheduled the call. They wanted to bring the newly partnered 3G Live face-to-face with the driving force of the Ultimate Dream Concert concept - the fans.
But Honesty surprised both of these powerhouses by introducing more than simply the enthusiasm witnessed through other fans. Honesty presented a level of ingenuity and spirit of enterprise that mirrored younger versions of both K.D. and Carmack. She possessed a "New Yorker-like” assertion that intrigued K.D. while blending a unique sense of humility that obviously stemmed from her Atlanta, Georgia (Stone Mountain), upbringing which just happened to be the professional base of Carmack's Posh Platinum.
K.D. recalls, "One of my underlying objectives in my returning back to the industry was to establish a college mentoring program specifically for young women interested in new media technologies, marketing and entertainment."
K.D. continued, "Within our initial conversation, 'Hony' went on and on about the power of the college student. She expressed that 'we (assuming the affirmative) need to turn this into a 3G Cult Movement.' I assumed that 'cult' naturally was an abbreviation for the word culture. As a classic stroke of genius and off the top of her head, she explained that when she used the word 'cult', it was actually an acronym for a 3G Live College& University Liquid Television Movement or 'C.U.L.T.' I was blown away! The idea was hot! From that point on, I was sold."
In less than a week, this distinguished member of the Florida A&M University Marching 100 created a detailed collegiate marketing initiative that could have been easily integrated into the existing and already overwhelmingly successful plan.
3G Live and Posh adopted the creative title and Honesty Brennan was hired as the intern to fast-track the implementation of the "3G C.U.L.T. Movement".
Digital Honesty is the virtual pseudonym that K.D. attached to the 20- year old innovator following another conversation with the sophomore. Honesty proclaimed that, "Beginning with the support of the Rattlers and the Seminoles, she is about to introduce UDC to the truth in online marketing - the college student is the hottest market on the planet. We [college students] own the Internet!"
I would like to be the first to congratulate "Digital Honesty" on her recent internship with Posh Platinum and 3G Live Media & Entertainment. And when you reach the top, try not to forget about the little people. Let's go Tallahassee!
