Dr. Dick Tosdal who is the Society of Economic Geologists ("SEG") Thayer Lindsley Visiting Lecturer for 2009 will be giving a series of lectures in Bulgaria, Macedonia. Dr. Tosdal is an exceptional presenter and educator, and an accomplished researcher.
FULL PRESS RELEASE: http://www.see-
Dr. Tosdal will be giving three presentations:
• Tectonic transitions in the porphyry-epithermal environment
• Footprints of carbonate rock hosted polymetallic deposits in central Peru
• Building the geologic environment of Carlin-type Au deposits in northern Nevada
These lectuires are very relevant to the region. The first topic needs no introdcution. The second talk is especially relevent given the large carbonate hosted deposits of Tertiary age present in Macedonia and Serbia and the recent anncouncement by EurOmax Resources Limtied of wide copper-gold drill hole intercepts south of Novi Pazaar in Serbia. The recent discovery of “Carlin Style” mineralisation along the western side of the Bor Volcanic Complex by Dundee ensures that the third presentation in an extended format will be most interesting.
Preliminary Speaking Schedule
Monday, 4th May: Sofia, Bulgaria Lectures
Tuesday, 5th May: Belgrade, Serbia Lectures
Thursday 7th May: Stip, Macedonia Lectures

Dr. Richard Tosdal
Richard Tosdal received an A.B. degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara, a M.Sc. degree from Queen's University, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Between 1978 and 1999, Dr. Tosdal worked for the U.S. Geological Survey and as an independent geologist for the mining industry. From 1999 through 2008, he was the Director of the Mineral Deposit Research Unit at the University of British Columbia where he supervised collaborative industry-university research projects on 5 continents investigating intrusion-related Au deposit, Carlin-type sedimentary rock-hosted deposits, porphyry and epithermal systems, VMS deposits, carbonate-hosted polymetallic deposits, integration of geology and geophysical inversion, and volcanology of kimberlite. In 2009, he became an independent geologist based in the eastern United States from where he consults with the minerals industry around the world. Dr. Tosdal also continues an affiliation with the Mineral Deposit Research Unit through on-going collaborative industry-university research. He has worked on geologic, tectonic, and metallogenic problems in the Cordilleras and Cratons of North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia.
We are delighted to host Dr Tosdal in SE Europe during May. Registration information will be posted shortly on the SEEGF website: http://www.see-
