March 27, 2009 - PRLog -- Skila and Mr. Michael Schaffer are proud to announce the creation of a unique Linked-In group; “The Medical Marketing Group”.   The purpose of The Medical Marketing Group is to set industry-first medical marketing policies and guidelines and bring medical marketing professionals together in a forum designed to address the most important issues they face today.  Group membership is for those who specialize in medical marketing in the pharmaceutical, medical device and biotech industries.  The group will tackle issues impacting medical marketing and cover such diverse topics as KOL Development, Peer-to-Peer physician mapping, and trends in the health care industry being driven at government levels – such as the Obama presidency.  In order to initiate this dialog between medical marketing professionals, Skila and Mr. Schaffer will be introducing an upcoming webinar focused on changing government regulations and their effect on the medical marketing community. This webinar will be the first series for group members.  

Unique aspects of this group will also include an upcoming dedicated and interactive web site, www.themedicalmarketinggroup.com, and periodic face-to-face industry-supported medical marketing advisory meetings. Additional webinars will also be offered on a quarterly basis, offering members exclusive perspectives from industry leaders and peers from around the world speaking on relevant medical marketing topics.

About Mr. Michael Schaffer
Michael Schaffer is New England’s Senior District Business Manager in Abbott Laboratories’ Pharmaceutical Products Division, specializing in Virology.  Mr. Schaffer brings with him more than 16 years of experience in healthcare and IT which has uniquely suited him for managing within the emerging pharmaceutical and biotech arena.  He joined Abbott in 1990 as a Business Systems Analyst, and later moved into primary and specialty care sales roles.  In 1999, he became a Clinical Scientist for Virology and since then he has held positions in Virology Marketing and Sales Management.  

His current responsibilities include oversight and direction of 6 Specialty Sales Representatives, an Institutional Manager, and an Advocacy Relations Manager, subsequently leading sales and marketing related activities in the New England region.

Over the past 6 years, Mr. Schaffer has led the development of Abbotts’ Virology Key Opinion Leader Database, their National and Regional Medical Marketing Advisory programming, and has been a contributor to the Medical Marketing and Sales Departments.

Mr. Schaffer has worked with Infectious Disease physicians throughout North America developing and fostering key relationships with some of the top academic and training facilities in the country, including Northwestern University, Brigham & Women’s of Boston, The University of Chicago, Mayo Clinic, University of Wisconsin (Madison), and MGH, to name a few.
