Indo Caribbean Riddums premières on Thursday 26 March at 7.30pm on WITV www.westindianculture.com with host Alison Budree. The show brings new, reviews and features of artistes, singers, dancers and musicians involved in all aspects of East Indian culture. “The show takes an in-depth look at the rich culture of the East Indian population in Trinidad & Tobago in the region and the world. East Indian culture is transformed and this is seen through music, religion and festivals of East Indian people”, said Budree.
Segments of the show will highlight Cultural Icons, religion, fashion and entertainment news all in an effort to explore this transplanted culture and its ability to retain its essence in a multicultural society. Cultural retention of the East Indian tradition is debatable in light of the many cultural changes that see aspects of East Indian culture becoming more inclusive and embraced by other ethnicities.
The first show will feature veteran Chutney Soca artiste of 40 years, Mr. Lal Bharat, a feature of the tassa drum known as the heart beat of any East Indian celebration and highlights from the recent, Hosay festival along with historical insights into their origins and transformation.
Indo cultural Riddums is the second show produced by WITV (West Indian TV) and is expected to enjoy the same success of Caribbean Cultural Riddums. Indo Cultural Riddums will be the first show of its kind in the region, and hopes to capture audiences of countries with large East Indian populations.
The historical airing of Indo Caribbean Riddims on Thursday 26 March at 7.30pm on WITV at www.westindianculture.com and www.knowthecaribbean.com is another milestone of WITV who is dedicated to bringing indigenous West Indian programming to the Caribbean Diaspora around the world.
