PRLog (Press Release) - Mar 26, 2009 -
Dark Matter, a modern balletic powerhouse, by Choreographer Michael Cornell, formerly of BalletMet, Ohio, is set to debut Saturday, March 28, 2009, as part of the DanceSpot Series at Studio A Dance in Silver Lake, CA.

Wondering if the power above may be connected to our personal power below, Cornell physically draws parallels between four hollywood starlets and scientists hopes of smashing protons at the speed of light and unlocking the "Dark Matter Theory".

Dark Matter has become a movement expression of many complex theories.  Initially inspired by the music of Olive  to create a work about strong young women in Hollywood who could not be held back from achieving their goals, Cornell began to realize that indeed, Dark Matter is a metaphor for the exploration of his own personal power as well.

His first vision of the piece was to collaborate with and empower through a "commercially" beautiful and talented female cast who represented the so many young women who risk everything.   Moving away from family and friends to the lonely, often very experientially "dis-connected" boulevards of Hollywood, these women not only dare to obtain what is more often the un-obtainable, but literally smash down doors with their unstoppable energy.

The idea of dark matter was realized when Cornell began to research the concept of an energy that could break through walls or any other matter.  His search curiously led him to the Dark Matter theory and the European super-collider project called, CERN. [The acronym CERN originally stood, in French, for Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire (European Council for Nuclear Research)]. The project since 1954, has inspired multiple nations to unify and earmark 9 billion dollars to build the large Hadron Collider, a particle accelerator capable of smashing protons at the speed of light, in hopes of discovering the properties of Dark Matter and unlocking the mysteries of the universe.   One proposed idea was that Dark Matter represents dimensions we cannot visualize or comprehend yet it is constantly expanding.

It was this idea that connected with Cornell.  Realizing that if the universe is made primarily of a matter we cannot explain, then possibly this matter could be the substance of which we as individuals connect with to achieve our dreams.

Dark Matter is then not dark at all.  It is the unstoppable energy that inspires all of us to focus ourselves, our positive thoughts and our powerful energies into a dark world smashing it around and finding that we live in a universe filled with hope and devoid of limitation.

In Dark Matter Choreographer Michael Cornell celebrates the powerful female spirit giving us a clearer vision of what it means to unlock our own internal mysteries and become a force smashing our way through darkness and discovering a universe of hope within us all.
