By: Jo Keim “The State’s seal of approval permits Briarcliffe College to expand upon what we currently offer students interested in the protective services,” stated Briarcliffe College President Dr. George Santiago, Jr. “The B.S. in Criminal Justice will enhance career advancement, providing students a comprehensive overview of criminal justice, including the modern-day fields of emergency management, terrorism, and risk assessment.” Briarcliffe College expects that students currently enrolled in the Criminal Justice A.S. program will continue toward a B.S. degree. The College also anticipates that working professionals will return to earn credits toward a B.S. and advance their careers. The Criminal Justice B.S. curriculum will explore current topics such as homeland security, sex offenders in society, women and minorities, while building upon a solid foundation of study in criminal law, juvenile justice, procedural law, policing and corrections. Graduates are well prepared for careers as police, court and correctional officers, caseworkers, private investigators, loss prevention specialists, fraud investigators, park enforcement agents, traffic and school safety officers, emergency services, and more. In the course of study, Briarcliffe College provides for invaluable field and internship experiences for students. According to Briarcliffe College Provost Dr. Sonia Heywood, “Criminal Justice is an example of a growing field in both the private and public sectors, and the approved B.S. in Criminal Justice is timely.” Courses toward the B.S. in Criminal Justice are offered at both the Bethpage and Patchogue campuses.
