Bristol, UK - People think of modelling as being strictly a young person’s game, with supermodels in the prime in their teens and early twenties. That might have once been the case, but things are changing, even in the world of high fashion. Anyone in their 30s or 40s who is thinking of (http://www.modelsdirect.com/faq/index.php) becoming a model should take heart.

Take Heidi Klum, for instance. The famous German supermodel is now 35 and her career is stronger than ever. She’s just been selected as the new face of Victoria’s Secret Perfect One bra. In a recent interview, Klum expressed her intention to keep modelling for the foreseeable future, even into old age. “I’ll be 80 on crutches at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show hopping down the runway, groaning for my grandkids to help me down!” she said.

This trend towards a wider age spread of models being used in advertising can also be seen in other areas of the modelling industry according to Damian O’Connor, Managing Director of nationwide modelling agency Models Direct.

“It’s becoming more and more common for clients to come to us (http://www.modelsdirect.com/news/index.html) looking for models in their thirties or forties to appear in advertisements and photo shoots,” says O’Connor. “We have always taken the approach of having as broad a community of models as possible on our books at any given time. In the last decade or so, the demand for models that are out of their twenties has really increased.”

O’Connor puts this trend down to the fact that marketers are making more effort to appeal to their audience by using real looking models in advertising photography.

“Fortunately, we’re also seeing, more and more, older women come to us wanting to become a model. Often they are interested in pursuing a part time modelling career, doing jobs from time to time around the busy schedule of family life,” says O’Connor.
