Recently while selling some small excess property on E-bay in order to buy more equipment for our Department I was made aware of an issue, There are thousands of Fire Departments in need of tools and equipment. I recieved messaged from tons of departments asking for anything they could get.
Too many Fire Departments have little or no budget and belive it or not many fund their Fire Department out of their own pockets right down to buying their own fuel for fire trucks. While this is unacceptable it is a fact of life. Then it hit me, in Illinois the state fire marshal web site has an area where Illinois Fire Departments can donate equipment to other Illinois Departments. Our department has recieved some of this type equipment and it is all very usable. that is great for us but what about departments across the U.S.?
I wanted to do what I could to help but I am far from rich however I know the internet well and know Web Sites so in Feburary of 2009 Fire Tool Trader was born. The site was created and is completely funded on my own.
The idea of the web site is to connect departments who are in need with those who have usable equipment they can donate to the needy departments no matter what state they are in. As far as I know this is the first site of it's kind. Fire Tool Trader.com plans to help as many Departments as possible but really needs some larger departments to step up and help and maybe even some Fire Equipment suppliers
