Introduction
Dr. Harriet Burge, Director of Aerobiology, EMLab P&K San Bruno, California stated the following about infections with drug-resistant microorganisms (Methacillin-
resistant Staphylococcus aureus “MRSA”) in the indoor environment connections newspaper. MRSA is regarded as an important cause of antibiotics-
resistant infections that are acquired in the community. Because these resistant bacteria are so adaptable, when an environment exists with available food and little competition, the bacteria appear to gain the ability to overcome whatever factor has reduced the original population, and recognize the environmental niche. To curtail spread of MRSA, control of exposure requires both excellent personal hygiene, and environmental control. Hand washing remains the very best way to prevent cross infection with almost all human source microbes, as is limiting contact with those known to be infected.
