As a rule global recessions do not have many silver linings, but for savvy US travelers it's a great time to book an authentic safari in Zambia, as many of the safari outfitters there are now offering savings of up to $985 per person. Africa specialist Aardvark Safaris is seeing many more mouthwatering safari options in 2009 over last year, including the waiving of single supplement fees and free internal flights.

Just some of the special Zambia safari deals on offer…

Combine Kasaka River Lodge in the Lower Zambezi with Chundukwa in Livingstone
This 7-night special includes three nights at Chundukwa in Livingstone with four nights at Kasaka in the Lower Zambezi.  The cost of this trip is from $2,246  per person and includes internal flights between Livingstone and the Lower Zambezi, and then the Lower Zambezi and Lusaka, accommodation, meals and drinks.  This is a saving of $585 per person in low season (June) and $985 per person in high season (July-October).

Family Safari Special
Aardvark Safaris is now promoting a ‘second child stays free’ safari at one of several lodges and camps, including Nkwali, Robin’s House, Luangwa Safari House, Chongwe River House and Pumulani on Lake Malawi.  For a 4-night family safari in peak season (July-October) you can save about $925 to $1,380 per family booking, depending on the properties used.

Single Travel in Zambia
Between June and October Robin Pope Safaris is waiving its single supplement fee, which on a 7-night safari means a whopping savings of $1,750.

Free internal flights
The Zambian Horizons consortium is working together in order to stimulate international travel to Zambia. It is currently offering two free internal flights for a 10- to 13-night safari with any two of the following safari outfits; Robin Pope Safaris, Norman Carr and Bush Camp Company in the South Luangwa, and Sausage Tree, Chiawa and Chongwe River Camp in the Lower Zambezi.  This is a saving of around $875 per person.
