West Nashville Wrecker Service Participated in an Incident Management Conference

The committee reports directly to the Commissioners of Transportation and Safety on their activities and progress.

PR Log (Press Release)Mar 24, 2009 – Washington, DC,  West Nashville Wrecker Service participated in an Incident Management Conference with numerous agencies for the purpose of the Tennessee Highway Safety and Incident Management (THSIM), which provides information on different areas of the SHSP, present strategies on better safety practices, and emphasize the need to have a more focused approach to Safety through all components – engineering, education, enforcement, and emergency response. (This conference is funded by a grant from the Federal Highway Administration.)

The Tennessee Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) was enacted in November of 2004. The Strategic Highway Safety Committee is composed of members from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the Tennessee Department of Safety, the Governor’s Highway Safety Office, the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and the Nashville Metro Police. The committee reports directly to the Commissioners of Transportation and Safety on their activities and progress. Components of the Strategic Highway Safety Plan include lane departure, intersection safety, work zone safety, legislative, traffic records, motor carrier safety, driver behavior, and training programs.

In addition to the SHSP, Tennessee also has a Strategic Plan for Highway Incident Management. This plan establishes a systematic, statewide, multi-agency effort to improve the management of highway incidents which include crashes, disabled and abandoned vehicles, debris in the roadway, work zones, adverse weather, and other events and emergencies that impact the transportation system.

Total Fatalities: 1,287: Roadway Departure – 859; Intersections – 194; Pedestrian – 91; Work Zones - 27 Fatality Rate: 1.82
