New Jersey Dinner Theatre Show Takes Hold

Local playwright premiers “true jersey” comedy at cranbury inn restaurant

March 23, 2009 - PRLog -- TIMELY SPOOF OPENS NEW DINNER THEATRE SEASON ON APRIL 17th WITH A ROAR!

It was just a matter of time! After years of listening NJ 101.5 in his home state of New Jersey hearing about everything from high taxes and pollution, to political corruption and sex scandals, a humorous play about the ironically named “Garden State” was ripe for the pickin’!  And no one knew it better than actor/playwright, Ryan Long, who was born in the limelight and raised in the bright lights of the South Jersey entertainment world. Not only does his father run the ever popular “Elaine’s Dinner Theater”, in Cape May, NJ., (where Ryan honed his acting, writing, directing, production, and theater business skills), but also, his mother is a veteran entertainer; performing in both a top 40 and Jazz Band for decades.

Now Founder and Artistic Director of The Riddlesbrood Touring Theatre Company in Burlington City, Long has earned a reputation for his zany, highly improvisational productions that can be best described as a riotous mix of Saturday Night Live, Monty Python, and the Zucher Brothers, of the movie, “Airplane” fame. In 5 short years, Long and his company of talented actors from New Jersey and Pennsylvania have become a formidable theatrical production company that presents original, top quality, interactive comedy shows and murder mysteries throughout the Delaware Valley, including such distinctive locations as historic Braddock’s Tavern Restaurant, The Flying “W” Resort and Airport, and Liberty Belle Riverboat.

“I’ve wanted to write a comedy about New Jersey for years,” said Long. “Woody Allen once referred to New Jersey as a ‘vast, primitive wasteland’. That may be true - but not when it comes to material!   No wonder we have to pay to get out of Jersey but not to get in!”

But it wasn’t until Long started meeting with Tom and Gay Ingegneri, Innkeepers of the historic Cranbury Inn Restaurant, in Cranbury NJ, that he became inspired to finally start writing his ideas down.

“We were always commiserating and laughing about what’s wrong with New Jersey,” explains Long.
“Tom kept encouraging me to write a comedy about it. He wanted to premier it as the opening Dinner Theater presentation in their new Legacy Room. Then the recession hit and I knew that I couldn’t resist.”

“True Jersey” exceeded Ingegneri’s expectations. “Ryan really did his homework,” said Ingegneri. “It’s not just a hilarious satire. This wildly funny trek through the daily life of a New Jersey resident is filled with historical references and timely, witty jokes that Ryan will periodically update as the play continues to run.”
