Dance Kids Good Deeds at Christmas Raise over €8000

Freda Hearty's Dance Kids from Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland raise over €8000 for Temple Street Childrens Hospital

Christmas time is a time to spread happiness and cheer around and nobody knows this better than Freda Hearty and the Dance Kids from Dundalk, Co. Louth. Every Christmas they hold a ‘Danceathon’ to raise money for Charity, with an amazing €120,000 being raised for charity in recent years. This years Danceathon ‘GROOVY CHRISTMAS’ took place on Sunday 21st December in Kilcurry Community Centre, Dundalk, Co. Louth. With an amazing €8000 being raised for the Neurology Department in Temple Street Children’s Hospital. The Dance Kids proudly presented the cheque to Caroline Murphy who has been associated with the Dance Kids for many years.

In addition to their Danceathon, the Dance Kids also performed excerpts from ‘White Christmas’ for the residents of Dealgan Home Nursing Home, Fatima, Dundalk and St Oliver Plunketts Hospital, Dublin Road, Dundalk. The delighted residents sang along to many favourites such as ‘snow’, ‘sisters’, ‘count your blessings’, ‘white Christmas’ and many more. According to Freda Hearty “We were delighted to be able to share the wonderful talent of the kids with the community and we hope that we have managed to spread a little Christmas cheer to all the residents and staff at Dealgan Home and St Oliver Plunketts hospital. Everyone, including myself and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we hope to visit the retirement homes again very soon.”

Preparations are now underway for the Dance Kids annual summer show, this year being titled "We Rock" with promises from both Freda and the Dance Kids of it being ‘the best show yet!’ Classes take place on Saturdays, in Scoil Eoin Baiste, Fatima, Dundalk from 11:30–12:30 for 4–7yrs, 12:30–1:30 for 8-12yrs, 1:30-2:30 for 12yrs+ and on Thursdays at 6:30-7:30 for seniors (15+). Classes also take place in Holy Family Hall, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan on Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 for 4-7yrs and from 5:30-6:30 for 8yrs+.

Dance Kids classes are an excellent way for kids to learn many talents in the field of dance, drama and song. They create an excellent opportunity for children to grow in confidence, perform on stage, become active, make friends and most importantly have fun!

Freda Hearty has being running the Dance Kids for almost 20 years in Dundalk, Co. Louth. She has a dedicated team of five cheorographers and around 150 Kids attending her classes. Every year they put on two shows, one at Christmas and the other in June both to raise money for Charity. In recent years Freda and her Dance Kids have raised over €120,000 for various charities all around the world.
