Melanie and Lexie get ready for 2009 Boston Marathon
In the fall of 2007, Bev, Melanie and Lexie designed “Lexie’s Bracelet” made with Swarovski Pearls and Bali Silver to support Melanie’s Boston Marathon run for 2008 DFMC (Dana Farber Marathon Challenge). Ten year old, Lexie chose the significance of the Swarovski Pearl colors and with the help of Bev, Lexie’s Bracelets came to life. Soon more items were added to Lexie's Jewelry, earrings, a pendant and a choker. Not only does Melanie run the 26.2 miles but she raises at least $3,000 for Cancer Research at the Dana Farber. All three friends have walked the path of Cancer.
For each piece of jewelry sold, $10 will be donated to Dana Farber Marathon Challenge. ($5.00 for earrings)
After the 2008 Boston Marathon, Lexie commented “Her favorite part was seeing her teacher, Melanie Horris, come towards me at mile 25, getting a big hug from her and running with her a little way.” This year, now 11, Lexie has been training and will run the last 1.2 miles and cross the finish line with her DFMC runner, Melanie.
When Lexie was asked “If she could have one wish, what would that be?” she answered “To find a cure for brain tumors so my friends would stop getting sicker and dying!”
Melanie will be running the next 26.2 mile Boston Marathon on Monday, April 20, 2009 with Lexie for the last 1.2 miles.
